Born 1979, M.A. in Philosophy, Univ. of Vienna (2005). Currently a PhD candidate at the Institute for South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhist Studies, Univ. of Vienna.
Patrick Mc Allister started working at the Institute in May, 2010. His primary research interest is in the apoha theory, the Buddhist theory of universals and concepts, especially in the forms it took during the Indian developments from the 10th century onwards (primarily in the works of Jñānaśrīmitra and Ratnakīrti). He is also investigating exchanges between Buddhist and Non-Buddhist thinkers in 8th to 11th century Kashmir within the National Research Network The Cultural History of the Western Himalaya from the 8th Century.
